Riverside Path Improvement
Overview
The riverside path between Jubilee Terrace and Scarborough Bridge is a key route on the pedestrian and cycle network connecting the west of the city with the city centre.
We are asking residents and users of the path to share their views on detailed designs to improve the riverside path.
This follows previous engagement carried out in December 2022 – January 2023. Since then, the council has been carrying out work to design a scheme that looks to reflect the priorities of local residents whilst also meeting the budget and requirements of the funding.
As part of the York Central development, high-quality pedestrian and cycle routes which will be unaffected by river flooding are to be provided. These will link Water End/Leeman Road to Station Rise/Marble Arch, but we are very aware that these will not replace the importance of the riverside route as a direct link to the city centre and as a key leisure route.
This is why we are investing in improvements and want to hear your thoughts. The design aims to increase capacity for walking, wheeling and cycling and improve flood resilience. It also seeks to introduce more lighting and rest areas, so that users feel safer and more comfortable using the route.
